Getting Started

So after much procrastination I finally have my blog up and running. Thanks SOOO much to my friend Carolann who helped me put it together because as good as I am with cakes I am equally bad with technology :)

I've been making cakes for over a year now. I started by taking a Wilton basic cake decorating class because I had no idea what a crumb coat, torting, or crusting buttercream meant. My son's 2nd birthday was coming up in May and I figured it was as good a time as any to start cake decorating and make a cake for him.

So this is what I came up with. I did chocolate for all the tiers and did buttercream with bits of chopped up Oreo cookies in it. For the decorations I used my new found skills :) I did red piping down the sides and a shell border. I made the clown, seal, and balloons all out of modeling chocolate and voila! I was done. I was very proud of myself and thought I had done an awesome job for it being my first! I even made a little smash cake to go with it.
