Happy Father's Day

I am so behind on these posts. I have a million cake pictures (okay, not literally a million!) and a ton of orders to do. But, I'm not complaining! I LOVE keeping busy. Anyhow, here's a picture of the cake I did for my hubs for Fathers Day.
It's a PS3 console. Its made out of vanilla cake and buttercream and covered in fondant.
And here's a picture of him enjoying it. It ended up being WAY too much cake and we ate about half of it before I threw it out. Happy belated Father's Day!!!

Angelito de La Guarda

This is a cake I did for a babyshower. Its a 3 tier with chocolate & strawberry filling, banana & cream cheese, and vanilla & buttercream. There's little feet all around the cake and a baby sleeping on top of blocks that spell out 'bebe' or baby in Spanish. Around the middle tier it says, 'Angel de la guarda, de mi dulce compania, no me desampares, ni de noche ni de dia' which translates into 'Guardian Angel in my sweet company, do not forsake me in the day or at night. '

My First Cupcake Tower

I love cupcakes, they are easy and cute. Put them on a cupcake tower and you get a instant elegant centerpiece to any party! Here's my very first cupcake tower I attempted.

I think there were 70 cupcakes total, consisting of a mix of standard size and mini cupcakes. I also did a small 6" cake on the top for the birthday girl. This also was the first time I got to use my Cricut Cake ! I did all the decorations out of gumpaste. You can't really tell but I did two different kinds of butterflies for cupcake toppers and little #1s.

Wedding Cake

Apart from doing the two 1st birthday cakes, I also had a wedding cake order.
Here's a picture of the finished product. It was a 3 tier cake (6",8",10") and was all carrot cake with cream cheese filling and buttercream frosting. I piped interlocked hearts and little dots all over and then decorated on site with fresh flowers.  This was the first cake I had to deliver long distance. I delivered it to Valley Center and let me tell you, I was sweating the whole way! It took me about one hour total to get there and it was in a rural area in mountains with a single lane all the way up. I keep having to pull over to let cars pass me cause I was too afraid to go faster. I thought the cake might tip over. Luckily, the cake made it all right and I got there right before I had a nervous breakdown, lol. So what do you think? Good job or not?

1st Birthday Cakes

I absolutely love kids birthday parties. Especially 1st birthdays. They are my favorite. This week I was lucky enough to be booked for TWO 1st birthday parties.
Here's one of the cakes I did. This was a BIG cake. Its a three tier (8", 10", 12") and feeds about 88-118 people. I made it out of chocolate and strawberry filling. Its frosted in hot pink buttercream and then I added zebra frosting sheets to the middle tier, and did hand painted zebra tiaras, bow and #1 out of fondant.  I also did a matching smash cake, but forgot to take a picture (boo).
This cake I did for a friend. Its a 2 tier (8", 10"). I did the top tier out of carrot cake and cream cheese filling and the bottom tier red velvet and cream cheese filling. I frosted it all in buttercream and did gumpaste flowers, butterflies and the #1. I absolutely LOVE this cake. I always work so much better when I'm given free rein :) OOh, plus I was invited to the party so I actually got to eat some (bonus)!

Lazy Weekend

I've been super busy these past few months with all the kids activities, cake tastings, cake orders, and  work (oh yeah, did you know I also have an real job? As some people say. Yep, yours truly is a spanish teacher!) I thought I'd give myself this weekend off cause I earned it :) But of course, that didn't happen. I of course booked the entire weekend with cake tasting, because I'm just not me if I'm not busy doing something :) I'm sitting here in my patio enjoying this lovely weather, blogging away, in between tastings.
Here's a peek at my earlier tasting.
Hope you enjoy your weekend!

Morgan Wedding Cupcake Tower

I like to think that cupcake towers are my 'thing'. It's super popular but I don't see alot of people in my area doing it. They're convenient because no cake cutting is involved but they're still really pretty and dramatic looking. Almost all the weddings I've done have been cupcake towers. This one right here is my favorite.

I did this beautiful cupcake wedding tower for the sweetest client I have ever had! It was a pleasure to work with her. I've been pretty lucky and had some amazing clients but this girl topped 'em all! She emailed me for a consultation and told me she was looking for a cupcake tower like a previous one I had done and she wanted navy and silver as her colors but definetely wanted a silver pearl look. At first I didnt know what I could do with those colors. Anyhow, I met with her and her fiance and they were the most polite people I had I ever met. They loved the tasting and booked right there and then! Yay! A week later I got a pretty pink envelope in the mail, it was a thank you card! That seriously made my day right there.

Here's a picture of the tasting. We did white cupcakes with cream cheese filling, yellow cupcakes with cream cheese filling, and marble cupcakes with chocolate mousse all topped with vanilla buttercream. They chose the white with cream cheese filling.

This is what I came up with. You can't really tell by the picture but all the cupcakes have a navy flower with a silver ball in the middle to match the cake on top. Here's a side view picture.
All in all, best client ever, she even brought the tower back before it was due :) and gave me a big ol' hug and thanked me for my service. Jennifer, thank you for being so sweet! I would love to work with you guys again!!

Celebration Cakes

Cakes are not just for birthdays and weddings. They sweeten every occasion. Here are some cakes I've done in the past.

This is a Halloween cake I made for my friend Carolann's party. It wasn't my best work and my husband did not like cause he hates the taste of fondant. I'm not crazy about fondant either. It's definetely an acquired taste but its amazing the things you can do with it that you just can't do with buttercream!

This is an Easter egg cake I did. It was for a clients husband's birthday which happened to be on Easter as well. Lucky fellow :)
Yes, this is a cake! Its a flower pot cake I made for my friend Karina for her mama for Mothers Day! Its actually the second one of these I made. I will post the other one later. It looks complicated but its actually really simple to make.
Like I said, you don't need any special occasion to have cake, or in this case cupcakes! Pictured here are some strawberry cupcakes filled with vanilla pudding and topped with vanilla buttercream. I made these dainty pink cupcakes for my sister just because :) I made one dozen but somehow only 4 (mom and grandma . . .) made it to her!
This cake is my most recent. I made last thursday for my daughter's preschool graduation ( . . .sniffle . . .). Yes, ladies and gentlemen she is now a KINDERGARTENER!! It doesn't seem like that long ago we brought her home from the hospital :(  Its  a pretty simple concept that I came up with earlier knowing I wouldn't have much time to do. It took me about 25 mins to bake and another 20 mins to decorate. I cheated a little and bought those new Wilton frosting sheets. The taste wasn't that bad and it beats using 3 bottles of dye to get that nice dark black color. I wanted to do the writing in actual powdered sugar to look more like chalk but tried and failed, plus time was not on my side. I'm pleased with how it came out and my daughter was elated! She couldn't believe that she could eat the cake. She keep saying, "So its not for sale, Mommy?" Lol, don't feel bad for her. I always make extra because who can really say 'no cake' to kids when this is what you're doing all the time at home?!

In honor of my new blog I decided to do a giveaway for all my blog and FB page followers.
